Cloud Schmoud - SOA!

Working in communication software/hardware is not like laying lines for a cable network.  The design and architecture of code really has to be deeply enmeshed in the actual top-level communication going on. Blah-blah-blah about cloud computing has missed the mark on this.

The mere fact that you can buy something from another company and use it under financially promising terms is financially important.  And, if you want to provide a service to another company a la cloud computing, that is nice too.  But, please, there is nothing deep about that.

The move toward centralization. That is interesting.  Still, though, getting to the communication import is less than obvious.  That is because the cloud story is just the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) story. The decoupling of network communication and network computation is interesting, and profound. With the decoupling is the specialization and cohesion of services.  That too is fascinating, deep, rife with thought provoking and promising edges, nooks, corners.
